House Party Lego Duplo Preview

I had the privilege of hosting my first House Party today and it happened to also be the first time I ever applied to host a House Party! I was so excited to be selected as a host and it was great fun playing and sharing with friends and getting to receive all the goodies that House Party sent from Lego Duplo! Glass Wall

I have no words.
I am spent.
The absence of my voice leaves room for the bile rising up
within the empty cavern where my heart once beat.
Loudly it thrummed out its music and yet now
all that you might hear crushed against the wall of my being:
A quiet flutter, enough to sustain while deprived of verve.
Eyes glazed looking out at the hustle and bustle around me.
Once, I belonged to that world of noise and emotion.
A clouded glass now muffles the sounds and impairs my
vision of an existence I have all but forgotten.
Do not let me forget.
Shatter the glass.

Bookcase : Before

Good morning! I decided to go ahead and do a quick post to show you the oak bookcase I have begun to refinish. This will be my first furniture painting project so I have done my research and found several different methods and tutorials online. I have found this tutorial to be the most helpful. The bookcase I am working with was a craigslist find and is made of solid oak with an oak veneer. The back is just a thin piece of wood tacked on. You can't really tell in this photo, but two pieces of plywood were added to create "feet" on either side of the shelf which makes it appear slightly unfinished but does give it more stability which I am sure was the intent. I am still brainstorming on how to "finish" it, but it may end up just getting painted at least for now. The first coat of primer is almost on and I will post a detailed description of the painting process when it is completed! Be watching for the grand reveal! :)

UPDATE 11/17/2013: Yes, I finished this project. Yes, I have pictures of the results...somewhere. I fell off the wagon right after getting on it and I have newfound respect for those who blog and raise a family! I am hoping to update this post with the completion but if not, please don't hold it against me as sometimes it is just best to start with a clean slate!

In the Land of DIY

Since I last wrote life has been a whirlwind. The boys have kept me busy though I have managed to complete a few DIY projects over the past few months. From holiday projects to my latest endeavor in refinishing an oak bookcase we recently acquired. We are bursting at the seams in our little home and have learned to imagine storage space into existence. We will be adding the new bookcase to the hall off the kitchen to hopefully house most of my jewelry supplies and craft paraphernalia. In between coats of paint (must be productive while drying!) I will be transforming our kitchen bar area into a much-needed work space for moi. I hope that will give me the motivation I need to boost my waning productivity. I will be posting before and afters of aforementioned bookcase as well as my new work space so be watching for them!

What's in a blog? that which we call a post By any other name would read as replete.

I have done it. My blog has officially commenced. No turning back now, I am on the technological highway scrawling my insights and inspirations for the perusal of the masses. To those of you reading this, I thank you. I realize you have a life and that following me in my journey through womanhood, marriage, motherhood, and business management may not be among the highest priorities in your day-to-day life. You honor me with your time and attention and for that I am sincerely grateful. So here's to the beginning of a new journey, my journey, into blogdom!
